Goodreads Monday #1

Goodreads Monday is a weekly feature where you chose a random book from your Goodreads TBR and show it off. This meme is currently hosted by Budget Tales Book Blog.

This week’s book is one that’s been on my radar since I saw the cover and heard a bit about the author last year (thanks twitter!).

At #1256 on my (admittedly bloat af) ‘want to read’ list, sits Blood Scion by debut author, Deborah Falaye!

According to my friends over on IG it’s a stunning military fantasy that takes a frank look at the individual cost of war, especially focusing on child soldiers!

Certainly sounds as brutal as it is intriguing!

What a gorgeous cover! Very James Cameron’s Avatar, but with Orishas. So it’s bound to be better!
Description from Goodreads

This is what they deserve. They wanted me to be a monster. I will be the worst monster they ever created.

Fifteen-year-old Sloane can incinerate an enemy at will—she is a Scion, a descendant of the ancient Orisha gods.

Under the Lucis’ brutal rule, her identity means her death if her powers are discovered. But when she is forcibly conscripted into the Lucis army on her fifteenth birthday, Sloane sees a new opportunity: to overcome the bloody challenges of Lucis training, and destroy them from within.

Sloane rises through the ranks and gains strength but, in doing so, risks something greater: losing herself entirely, and becoming the very monster that she ahbors.

Have you heard about this one?
Goodbye for now!
Let’s get this week started!

  1. Sounds interesting. I love the cover! I haven’t seen it on my Instagram posts, but then who knows what the algorithm is doing these days?!

    Have a great week!
